The Forbidden City has a long history of publication. Dating back to the early Qing dynasty, Wu Ying Dian (Hall of Military Prowess) in the imperial palace was used for royal book printing. With the name of “Dian Ben (palace edition books)”, the books printed in Wu Yin Dian were famous for their fine cutting and printing techniques, smooth ink and clean paper, as well as conscientious collation works. In the Republic of China period, the Palace Museum had printed a large amount of materials about studies on the cultural relics in its collection, making great influence at that age,and earning high evaluation from people like Lu Xun. The Forbidden City Publishing House was established in 1983, and so far is the only press belonging to one of the 3000 museums in China.
